METAMORPHYPUS
Metamorphypus is an independent short film funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. The film premiered at Fantasia Film Festival 2023 and is represented by Eroïn Films & Premium Films. This metaphysical, surrealist short functions as a satire of the crisis of self-image faced by public figures who have been “cancelled”.
In the film, Stephen Gunter—the protagonist—is a prominent literary figure whose regressive views on gender politics have turned a sizable portion of his predominantly progressive audience against him. As his self image is so connected to his position, Stephen doesn’t know what he is without his reputation; in the eyes of the world he’s becoming something he doesn’t understand, and so he becomes something he doesn’t understand: an ordinary platypus. With Stephen trapped in a body he doesn’t belong in, his young assistant Fiona seizes the opportunity to kickstart her own career…
